TEARS IN MY HEART

PHOTO:  http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/silent-of-tears

                                                   God, you know my heart
when I am happy.
My heart dancing in the morning grass,
singing in the blowing air
when I am happy.

God, you know my heart.
You, Who read every soul,
every single thought.
Please, tell me
why are these tears in my eyes
if I only want to smile?

It is a very inspirational poem. I read it for the first time when I was fifteen years old. And it changed my life.

Follow the first link and you will listen to Harvey Keitel reading the original poem (with the Spanish version). This is a commercial on CNN. It belongs to the Series of poems 1997, Thoughts that transcend, Union Bank of Switzerland. Copyright of UBS:

Joseph Rudyard Kipling (30 December 1865 – 18 January 1936) was an English poet, short-story writer, and novelist chiefly remembered for his celebration of British imperialism, tales and poems of British soldiers in India, and his tales for children. Kipling received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature. He was born in Bombay, in the Bombay Presidency of British India, and was taken by his family to England when he was five years old. Kipling is best known for his works of fiction, including The Jungle Book (a collection of stories which includes "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi"),Just So Stories (1902) (1894), Kim (1901) (a tale of adventure), many short stories, including "The Man Who Would Be King" (1888); and his poems, including Mandalay (1890), Gung Din (1890), The White Man's Burden (1899) and If— (1910). He is regarded as a major "innovator in the art of the short story"; his children's books are enduring classics of children's literature; and his best works are said to exhibit "a versatile and luminous narrative gift".
Kipling was one of the most popular writers in England, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

   Dear Whitney,
We are sunk now. The news in the newspapers said you had gone. And we couldn´t believe you won´t sing on a stage anymore. Nobody like you could touch our souls. And I want to tell you that you will be always with us. Your songs will always be in our hearts.
  We will always love you.

DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE, by Leonard Cohen

PHOTO:  http://www.undiaunacancion.com/articles/detail/36

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love.

These days I have been playing a guessing game in class. My pupils had to guess what was "HAVA NAGUILA". I only could answer "yes" or "no".
At first, they thought it was an animal and when I showed them Andre Rieu playing the violin at the Royal Albert Hall, they smiled. This is the video:

After Andre Rieu, we watched another video, by Lauren Rose:

I told them the story of this song:
